Our History

Joseph Herman Miller, Sr., the youngest of ten children, was born on Tates Plantation, fifteen miles south of Natchez, Mississippi, on March 13, 1905. He graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago, Illinois in 1928. Joseph united in wedlock to Miss Alice Mae Maddox, and in their union, one son was born, Joseph H. Miller, Jr. In 1929, Joseph Miller founded Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday, Louisiana. Later he moved to Monroe, La. In 1935, he opened Miller Funeral Home at 1006 Washington Street with a total capital of twnety dollars and one employee. In 1975, the business had outgrown its location, so he built the present modern funeral home at 3000 Renwick Street. Through hard work, sheer initiative, and dedication, Mr. and Mrs. Miller were able to build a multi-million dollar business enterprise
