February 25, 1925 - April 19, 2017
Margie Bowers Cole, a matriarch and phenomenal woman of God, departed this earth on April 10, 2017. Margie was born to the late Willie “Boy” Bowers Sr. and Eunice Elmore on February 25, 1925 in the town of Eros, LA. She united in matrimony to Vollie Cole (who preceded her in death). Margie was blessed by the birth of six children. One of her children, Edward Lee (Spoon), preceded her in death. She was also blessed with an extended family: Joyce, Gwen, Pam, and Frederick “Jackson”. She had four loving sisters, Lucille Bowers-Henderson, Wilean Elmore Taylor (both preceded her in death), Trudie Bowers-Jackson, and Nelda Elmore-Taylor. Sister Cole confessed Christ at an early age and united with the Young Chapel CME Church of Calhoun, LA. She actively served as Treasurer of Sunday and Women Missionary Society, Class Leader, Senior Usher, and Stewardess. She was a faithful servant until disabled by ill health, and remained a dedicated member until her demise. Margie was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, “Look to the East” Chapter #87. Her career began as a domestic engineer. In 1977 she was employed by the Ouachita Parish School System, where she worked diligently until she retired. Margie enjoyed fishing, singing, going to gospel music events, watching and traveling to sports events, and sitting with the sick and shut in. She was always willing to lend a hand. If someone needed food cooked, especially cakes and pies, she was only a phone call away. She had a way with words, and told it like it was whether you wanted to hear it or not. Margie or “Mammaw” as she was affectionately called by all of her grandchildren that she loved dearly, was actively involved and attended most of their career activities. She was a contributing member of the community and was loved by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish wonderful memories five children: Willie Bowers “Ruff” Jr., Glendell Cole (Linda), Charlie Moss (Moses), all of Calhoun, LA, Clotiel Thomas of West Monroe, LA, and Carolyn Beaver of Memphis, TN; one son-in-law, Eddie Beaver; one daughter-in-law, Doris Green (preceded her in death); fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
