Obituary Lula Butler Thornton was born October 3, 1926 to the late Eula Wilson Butler and Goldman Butler. She had five brothers (Willie, Leamon, Johnnie, and Leroy who preceded her in death and J.C.) and five sisters (Gloria and Mary Louise who preceded her in death and Eula, Bertha, and Annie Mae). In 1946, Lula Married Richard Thornton, Jr. and to this union, ten children were born, four boys and six girls. Sister Thornton graduated from Union Central High School in 1945. She was baptized at an early age at Cuba Baptist Church in Bosco, LA. A very active member, she was a dedicated Mother of the Church, active in the Sunday School, and was for many years a dutiful member and officer of the Usher Board. She was active in the community and in her early years worked closely with older community members, whether it was carrying them to the doctor, shopping, or simply running errands. She was unselfish and could always be found helping others. After many of her children finished school, she started work for the Caldwell Parish School Board in food services. She had a passion for hats and cloths, often bragging about the latest fashion that one of her children had acquired for her. She was an enormously proud parent and bent many an ear recounting the achievements of her children. Preceding Sister Thornton in death was her loving husband (Richard Thornton, Jr.). She leaves loving memories and beautiful experiences to be cherished by her devoted children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Four sons, Jerry (Betty) of Perris, California, Richard of Houston, Texas, Thomas (Tina) of Valencia, California and Kenneth (Terry) of Atlanta, Georgia.
